Governors Island is a fun day trip for many New Yorkers–but kosher observant diners had to remember to bring their own food, or they would literally by stranded until they could hop a ferry back to the mainland.
But now, one of Brooklyn’s most popular glatt kosher fast food joints will be on the island once a week for the rest of summer.
Schnitzi has been serving its famous schnitzel (thin, fried chicken cutlets) to eager customers in Midwood and Coney Island, and out of its mobile food truck for years. Now, thanks to an agreement with Governors Island arranged by Councilman David Greenfield, the Schnitzi truck will be on Governors Island every Sunday, starting at 11am, until September 28.
The Island also features dessert from Alchemy Creamery, which, despite its name, serves completely dairy-free, vegan, and kosher-certified ice cream. So you can enjoy it right alongside your schnitzel.
