This is a recipe for potato and onion gratin. This is a great side to any meal. The onions cook until they are so sweet and just melt in your mouth, and the potatoes become so tender and smooth. This dish is packed with delicious mild flavors. I add a ton of pepper to mine, but you can season as much as you like.

Ingredients

  • 6 large potatoes, peeled
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, grated
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • rosemary sprig

Instructions

  • 1. Slice potatoes and onions using a mandoline or a food processor.
  • 2. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. In a stoneware or gratin pan, pour a bit of the heavy cream with a few slices of butter.
  • 3. Add two layers of potatoes, followed by a layer of onions followed by a layer of cheese, salt and pepper, and a splash of heavy cream. Repeat until all potatoes and onions have been used, ending with cheese. Sprinkle the leaves from the rosemary over the top.
  • 4. Bake for 1 hour or until top is brown and the middle is tender when checked with a knife.
  • 5. Cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
