Berry granita is the most amazing dessert for the summer. It’s cool and refreshing. Plus it’s a great low-fat, low-calorie and healthy treat that can be served as a snack or dessert.

I like to serve berry granita in small glasses and garnish with some mint. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups blackberries
  • 1 tbsp black-currant liqueur (optional)
  • juice from 1 lemon
  • pinch kosher salt
  • mint for garnish

Instructions

  • 1. Purée blackberries, sugar, black-currant liqueur, lemon juice, salt, and 1 cup water in a blender until smooth.
  • 2. Strain purée through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on solids. Transfer liquid to a 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
  • 3. Freeze mixture until edges begin to set, about 30 minutes. Using a fork, scrape to break up frozen portions. Freeze, scraping and breaking up mixture every 20–30 minutes, until mixture resembles fluffy shaved ice, 2–4 hours. Garnish with mint and serve!
