This is a recipe for baked ziti. This is a dish of pasta with tomato sauce and cheeses baked into deliciousness. This is comfort food–plus, it’s a great vegetarian entree. I like to serve the baked ziti right in the baking dish, if you have individual sized dishes it’s even better.

Serve with a salad and some bread. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp hot pepper flakes (optional)
  • 8 oz ziti pasta
  • 1 cup ricotta
  • 1 large egg, whisked
  • 3/4 cup finely grated Parmesan
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 3 cups basic tomato sauce (store bought or homemade) click here for recipe

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Bring to boil a large pot filled with water. Cook pasta until al dente, according to package instructions, and drain and set aside.
  • 2. In a small bowl, combine ricotta, egg, 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, and half the mozzarella. Season with salt , hot pepper flakes and black pepper.
  • 3. In the bottom of a shallow casserole dish or 4 small dishes, spread half the tomato sauce. Top with the cooked ziti, then top with the ricotta mixture and the remaining tomato sauce.
  • 4. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese followed by the remaining mozzarella. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the top is browned and delicious! Serve.
