Baked apples  are a  really great dessert! It brings me back to my childhood.

My grandma used to always have a batch ready for me when I came over. When I make baked apples now, the house is filled with an amazing smell. A comfort smell, the smell of home. Plus fall is apple picking season; take your kids, they will love it.

These baked apples are is the perfect dessert to serve for gluten-free eaters. No substitutions, just delicious flavor! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1⁄4 cup sugar
  • 1⁄4 cup maple syrup
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp raisins
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄4 tsp kosher salt
  • 6 firm Fuji apples, stemmed and cored
  • 2 tbsp walnuts, toasted
  • ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine sugar, syrup, butter, raisins, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
  • 2. Slice the bottom of apples so that they sit flat. Transfer apples to 9x13-inch baking pan. Fill hollow cores of apples with sugar–syrup mixture.
  • 3. Cover apples with foil and bake until tender, about 50 minutes.
  • 4. Serve with ice cream and sprinkle with walnuts.
